Derek D. Satre, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco; and is an adjunct investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research in Oakland. Dr. Satre's research is focused on addiction and mental health services, including behavioral intervention development and testing, studies of screening and treatment in primary care settings, and the use of digital health technology to address alcohol and drug use in vulnerable patient populations with co-occurring mental or physical health problems. He has conducted a number of clinical trials and observational studies of patients with depression, anxiety, HIV, alcohol and cannabis problems, smoking, and other conditions. He has a strong research interest in improving mental health services across the lifespan, particularly with older adults, as well as the impact of health care reform and other policy changes on addiction services.
