I am a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco. I earned my PhD in Physics from the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg/Germany in 1983. From 1984 to 1992, I developed MRI systems first with Bruker GmbH in Karlsruhe/Germany and later with Varian Associates in Palo Alto, California. In 1993, I joined UCSF.

I study brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's using imaging. My main interests are improving diagnosis and assessing treatment efficacy. I accomplish this by developing novel computational methods for analyzing brain images using MRI physics as well as modern concepts of probability theory and statistical learning.

Altmetrics Details PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
