Dr. John Betjemann joined the UCSF Neurology faculty in 2012 after completing residency and fellowship training in both epilepsy and neurohospitalist medicine at UCSF. Accordingly, his clinical interests are quite varied and include medical and surgical treatment of patients with epilepsy as well as caring for patients with general neurologic conditions. His clinical activities are mainly focused in the inpatient arena attending on the neurology ward and consult service at both UCSF and San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). In addition, he is expanding the care of patients with epilepsy at SFGH by creating a medically refractory epilepsy clinic. Dr. Betjemann's research interests involve investigating health disparities, identification of ongoing status epilepticus through novel technologies, cost-effective resource utilization in the inpatient setting and improving inpatient outcomes. He remains intimately involved in the education of students, residents and fellows.

Dr. Betjemann earned a BS in economics and biology from Union College and an MD from Albany Medical College. He completed a medical internship and neurology residency at the University of Michigan.
