    Dr. Patterson received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and her MD from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She completed her post-doctoral training at UCSF, including her internal medicine residency, rheumatology fellowship, and a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded post-doctoral fellowship in integrative medicine research. She currently holds a joint faculty position in the Division of Rheumatology and the Osher Center for Integrative Health (OCIH). As a rheumatologist she specializes in the treatment of systemic lupus and in the application of lifestyle medicine alongside biomedical treatments to manage systemic rheumatic conditions. Dr. Patterson’s research program seeks to understand the impact of psychological stress and lifestyle behaviors such as physical activity in people with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus to inform nonpharmacologic interventions that improve patient outcomes.
