       Overview
Timothy C. Durazzo, PhD, is an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco and a Research Scientist at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Durazzo obtained his BA in Psychology from San Diego State University in 1988, and he received his PhD in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1996. Dr. Durazzo completed a one-year internship in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology from the Palo Alto VA Medical Center, California in 1996, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology and Neuroscience from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington in 1998.

Dr. Durazzo’s research revolves around three primary areas of interest. First, alcohol and substance use disorders. He and his colleagues are the first group to publish research specifically addressing the neurobiologic and neurocognitive effects of concurrent chronic cigarette smoking in alcohol disorders and recovery. Second, investigating chronic cigarette smoking by exploring the effects of chronic cigarette smoking of magnetic resonance-derived measures of brain morphology, metabolites, perfusion and diffusion as well as neurocognitive functioning in healthy non-substance abusing participants. Lastly, traumatic brain injury, which is focused on identifying and quantitating factors contributing to post-concussive syndrome in mild traumatic brain injuries.

Dr. Durazzo presently serves as a reviewer for 25 scientific journals. He has 39 published articles and he has written 49 peer-reviewed articles, 56 abstracts, and 5 significant publications.
