Abigail M Hatcher, PhD is a Senior Researcher at University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa) with a joint appointment at the UCSF School of Medicine. Her mixed-methods research centers upon designing and testing interventions for intimate partner violence (IPV) among women and male partners. Dr. Hatcher is a Co-Principal Investigator for a UKAID-funded trial to test a community intervention for reducing men's use of IPV in peri-urban Johannesburg. Dr. Hatcher was a Co-Principal Investigator for a WHO-funded trial of a nurse-led intervention for addressing IPV in pregnancy and mental health in inner-city Johannesburg. She was also a Co-Investigator for a NIH-funded home-based couples intervention among pregnant women and male partners in Kenya. Dr. Hatcher previously led a process evaluation of the Intervention with Microfinance for AIDS and Gender Equity (IMAGE), qualitatively explored a gender-transformative program for men’s use of IPV, and examined linkage to HIV care among newly-diagnosed individuals.
