Alex Hetherington is a Certified Prosthetist in the UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Orthotic and Prosthetic (O&P) Centers. He provides patient care and customized devices for children and adults with limb loss and limb differences. Alex specializes in lower and upper extremity devices, new prosthetic technology, innovative socket designs, and sport-specific applications. Under his leadership, the UCSF O&P outreach committee continues to expand resources to assist those affected by limb loss, limb differences, or other musculoskeletal deficiencies in maximizing their physical and functional mobility. Additionally, the outreach initiates are aimed at improving access to O&P services in low-resource settings, as well as building clinical and research capacity with our global partners. Alex also serves as the lead clinical mentor for the UCSF residency in prosthetics. He continues to refine the curriculum and clinical experience to train the next leaders of orthotic and prosthetic care.

Altmetrics Details PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
