Dr. Alice K. Rutatangwa is a pediatric neurologist who evaluates and cares for children with inflammatory and demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, which comprises the brain, optic nerves and spinal cord. (Demyelination is damage to the protective covering on nerve fibers.) She also provides consultations for hospitalized children. Her expertise encompasses multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder, MOG (myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein) antibody disease, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, autoimmune encephalitis, optic neuritis and transverse myelitis.

Rutatangwa's research focuses on inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system in children. She is working on a multicenter study examining predictors of disease course in pediatric demyelinating disorders.

Rutatangwa earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. She completed residencies in pediatrics and child neurology at State University of New York at Stony Brook. She completed a fellowship in pediatric neuroimmunology at UCSF.

Rutatangwa teaches medical students and residents, and participates in scholarly conferences pertaining to her specialties.

Altmetrics Details PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication.
