My program of research focuses on the development and testing of interventions for symptom palliation in patients with chronic conditions. In particular, my research centers on improving patients’ and family members’ abilities to utilize self-management strategies to manage their condition, improve their symptom experience and avoid hospitalizations. In addition, my research focuses on the further development and testing of these interventions in populations where access to health care is limited, thus creating health inequity. My current trial tests the effects of a physical activity intervention to palliate symptom burden in patients with cardiovascular disease and chronic conditions. I have obtained public and private funding to advance cardiovascular research and have mentored students in learning academic teaching roles and research methods. I also have administrative experience in supervising support staff while conducting research and in fulfilling academic course goals.
