Jonathan (Jaytee) Tang is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where he conducts research on the role of music therapy in pediatric pain management and palliative care. His mentors currently include Professor Stefan Friedrichsdorf, Professor Julene Johnson, and Professor Sheri Robb. This postdoctoral fellowship is supported by Laura and Gregg Perloff.

With a background in sociology, psychology, and music therapy, Jaytee's research broadly explores the intersections of music, culture, and health & well-being. Under the supervision of Professor Nikki Dibben and Professor Renee Timmers, he completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield. His doctoral project examines the role of self-construal (one's sense of self in relation to others, shaped by a cultural emphasis on interdependence of independence) in affective experiences with music across cultures. With this backdrop, Jaytee's research focuses on exploring the power of music (and the arts) in promoting health and well-being.

Jaytee brings a wealth of clinical and research experience from Singapore, the U.K., and the U.S. He has worked across a diverse range of settings: medical (AdventHealth Orlando), research and education (Singapore Management University), mental health (Institute of Mental Health, Singapore), and special education (Extraordinary People Limited, Singapore). These experiences, alongside working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, shaped his research interests in the intersections of culture, music, and health.
