    Dr. Caraballo is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep, Allergy and Sleep Medicine. He received his MD from Universidad Central de Venezuela. After completing residency training in Internal Medicine at University of Iowa, he completed a fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at UCSF. He serves as an attending physician in the Pulmonary consult service at UCSF.

    Dr. Caraballo's research focuses on developing engineered cells to treat pulmonary firbosis. His work utilizes synthetic receptors to program immune cells to deliver gene-encoded blockers of the cytokine TGFβ to the fibrotic microenvironment. The goal of this work it to develop novel cell-based therapeutics to treat pulmonary disease.
