Overview:
Rebecca is a Clinical Professor at UCSF and a national leader in Home-based primary care. She completed her undergraduate work in Neurobiology at Harvard University in 1990 and came to UCSF for her medical school training. She stayed at UCSF for residency in the Primary Care Internal Medicine program and for fellowship in Geriatrics.
In 2001, Rebecca completed her geriatrics fellowship and became medical director for the UCSF Care at Home program, transforming it into the flagship geriatric teaching and clinical care program at UCSF. Her vision of providing primary care to frail homebound elders in San Francisco inspires students, residents, and faculty. UCSF Care at Home is known throughout the Bay Area for its compassionate and comprehensive care for frail elders. UCSF Care at Home operates as a nonprofit, and Rebecca’s vision has inspired local philanthropy to support this innovative program. Rebecca has received awards for her clinical care as well as her teaching. She was elected to the UCSF Council of Master Clinicians in 2022, which recognizes faculty with a commitment to clinical medicine and superb clinical skills. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Clinical Activities:

Rebecca's primary clinical work is through the UCSF Care at Home program, which provides in-home primary and palliative care to frail homebound elders who otherwise would not be able to access care except through emergency services.
Care at Home is operated as a non-profit that does not charge any additional fees for providing care in the home. Patients come from all socioeconomic backgrounds and neighborhoods in San Francisco. Eighty percent of the patients are poverty level or low-income. Rebecca's leadership and passion has inspired local Bay Area Foundations and individual donors to support the Care at Home program.

Academic Focus:
Rebecca has taught geriatric medicine to learners at all levels and from many disciplines. Currently, she teaches the Geriatrics fellows for their month-long rotation in home care.
Rebecca has received a Geriatric Academic Career Award, and she was a co-author of an article on House call medicine in the Geriatric Medicine Clinics. She has been an associate editor for the Lange Clinical Geriatrics textbook and co-authored a chapter on Residential Care.
She is an active member of the American Academy of Home Care Medicine and has been on the education and program committees. She is currently co-chair of the program committee and will be chair for 2022-23.
