Ana Martinez is an immigrant from Guatemala and a DACA recipient. She graduated from SFSU with a bachelor's in Biology in 2018. She is a former volunteer at Clínica Martín-Baró, serving the community with free basic health care services in the Mission district for about three years. Then, she worked as a Medical Assistant for three years in the Mission Neighborhood Health Center in Pediatrics and assisted the COVID-19 vaccine team during the pandemic to provide free vaccinations and tests to the community. With her healthcare experience, she wanted to explore the research side of healthcare, so she worked as a CRC for the Find COVID-19 study to understand the virus's biology and its impact on the community. She wants to continue working in research to understand the impact that research has on our communities and to spread awareness of the importance of participating in research to have a better representation of vulnerable communities in research studies. Her goal is to become a nurse practitioner. She would like to represent women of color in healthcare to advocate for more representation for underserved communities and fight for equity in healthcare.
