Dr. Carmen Kilpatrick is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. She is an attending psychiatrist at UCSF Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital, where she supervises and teaches residents and medical students on the adult inpatient psychiatry service. She also provides psychiatric care for the San Francisco Department of Public Health in the county jail system. In the UCSF School of Medicine, she serves as Course Director for the foundational neuroscience course, “Brain, Mind, and Behavior.”

Dr. Kilpatrick is a clinician-educator whose work focuses on medical education, curriculum innovation, faculty development, and mentorship. She serves as a Main Psychiatry Career Advisor for the UCSF School of Medicine and as Certificate Steward for the Clinical Teaching Certificate Program through the UCSF Center for Faculty Education. Her educational scholarship centers on learner safety, simulation-based education, and creating inclusive learning environments that prepare students and physicians to provide compassionate, evidence-based and anti-oppressive care. With her background in film and media, she is interested in using the medical humanities to teach psychiatric diagnosis and formulation, communication, and clinical reasoning.

Her clinical interests include acute psychiatry, serious mental illness, and community psychiatry.
