    Dr. Martin is an assistant Professor within the Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine department at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. As a Pediatric Hospitalist at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, she directs and manages inpatient clinical care of a diverse group of pediatric patients ages 0-18 years affected by a variety of complex acute illnesses. This includes management of acutely ill children on high flow nasal cannula, stable tracheostomies, continuous albuterol, chest tubes, and complex treatment regimens. As a hospitalist at an academic teaching center, she also supervises teams of pediatric residents, family medicine residents, and medical students, performing regular bedside and team-based educational lectures in order to foster a healthy learning environment. She has won multiple teaching awards nominated by both learners and peers. Dr. Martin has a particular interest in neonatal care, attending deliveries and performing necessary resuscitations at the Eden Hospital maternity unit as well as managing critically ill neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Alta Bates and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland

    Description: This study, “PFC IPASS Comparing Three Approaches to Communication with Hospitalized Children and Families with Limited English Proficiency,” has the goal of improving patient safety and quality for hospitalized patients on the general pediatric service with limited English proficiency (LEP). This goal will be measured through the implementation of a structured form of I-PASS family centered rounding practices that includes health care provider cultural humility and communication skills training.
