Overview
Dr. Flora Nuñez Gallegos is a pediatric cardiologist who cares for patients with heart disease (both defects present at birth and problems that develop later). She has expertise in fetal and pediatric echocardiography (heart ultrasound). Through health promotion, advocacy, education and resource sharing, she strives to collaborate closely with families to develop care plans tailored to each child's specific needs. She aims to manage symptoms, prevent disease progression, and make a lasting impact on the overall health care experience of her patients, especially those from underserved communities.
Nuñez Gallegos' research focuses on examining and addressing health care disparities in pediatric cardiology, particularly among minority and underserved populations. She is also interested in mitigating cultural and literacy barriers for families with non-English language preferences. Integrating her expertise in public health and cardiology, she seeks to spearhead studies that shape health policies and create a more equitable world.
Nuñez Gallegos earned her medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Texas Children's Hospital (an affiliate of Baylor College of Medicine), where she served as chief resident. She completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology and an advanced fellowship in noninvasive imaging with a focus on transesophageal and fetal echocardiography, at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, where she served as chief fellow. She also has a master of public health degree, with a concentration on maternal and child health, from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Nuñez Gallegos is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology and American Academy of Pediatrics.
