    Dr. Shan is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in clinical and surgical managements of cataracts and glaucoma. Her expertise include various lasers, minimally invasive surgeries, glaucoma drainage devices and combined cataract – glaucoma surgeries.

    Dr. Shan obtained her graduate degrees through Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s joint MD-PHD program in Health Sciences and Technology (HST). She then underwent Ophthalmology residency at the University of Southern California (USC), followed by glaucoma fellowship at University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where she now serves as the medical director of the glaucoma service.

    In research, Dr. Shan develops AI technologies for glaucoma diagnosis and management. Her research aims to address open questions in the field regarding whether an automated image processing algorithm can empower population-based screening of glaucoma towards preventing irreversible vision loss, thereby furthering the development of accurate and scalable AI screening tools for this leading cause of blindness worldwide. Dr. Shan is a Chen Scholar and an inventor on multiple issued and pending patents.

    Dr. Shan is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and Women In Ophthalmology. In her spare time, she enjoys vinegar (yes vinegar, not wine) tasting and dressing up other people’s pets.
