Dr. Maxwell Presser is a general surgery resident at the University of California, Davis. He is interested in injury prevention among marginalized populations, especially violence prevention programs. His research focuses on hospital-based violence intervention programs and other violence prevention strategies, implementing trauma-informed care in surgical settings, and disabilities among survivors of violence. He works closely with the Wraparound Project, San Francisco General Hospital’s hospital-based violence intervention program, and The Better Lab, a human-centered design healthcare research center. In addition to his research endeavors, he is pursuing a certificate in Implementation Science and takes occasional general surgery call. NCSP has been instrumental in exposing Dr. Presser to new research methodologies, exploring how to incorporate health equity into surgery, and providing frameworks to tackle complex problems in healthcare with a systematic approach. He enjoys spending time with his golden retriever, Bruce.
