Overview
Carrie Evans, DNP, MA Ed, FNP-C, is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCSF School of Nursing. She has been faculty at UCSF since 2021, where she teaches in the BSN-DNP program and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialty, including courses in Complex Cases in Primary Care Seminar, Advanced Primary Care Seminar, FNP Clinical Practicum and Residency, and Advanced Health Assessment Skills Lab.
Her scholarly interests focus on nurse practitioner education and workforce development, with an emphasis on preparing clinicians for practice and leadership in safety-net and medically underserved settings. Her work also explores innovative educational approaches—including AI-enabled digital tutoring, clinical training redesign, and preceptor development—to support transition to practice, retention, and equity in primary and reproductive health care. Her recent scholarly work has been presented nationally and regionally at conferences, including the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), with a focus on re-envisioning NP education, transition to practice, and preparing clinicians for healthcare shortage areas. She is faculty on the HRSA-funded Underserved Coalition for Bay Area Advanced Practice Training (UCBAAPT) program and a Co-Principal Investigator on a UCSF Academy of Medical Educators Innovations Grant supporting the development of customizable, AI–based digital tutoring programs for health sciences education. Her Doctor of Nursing Practice project focused on strengthening referral pathways and improving utilization of home visiting programs for publicly insured families during the perinatal period.
Carrie’s clinical practice centers on reproductive health care for underserved populations. She currently practices within UCSF’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, providing antepartum and postpartum care with a particular focus on patients who are publicly insured. Her prior clinical experience includes roles at Planned Parenthood and City College of San Francisco.
