Monifa Willis, NP is a practicing nurse practitioner in mental health with over 20 years of experience working in the mental health field in various capacities.
Monifa was a marriage and family therapist for 5 years prior to becoming a nurse where she provided wraparound mental health services to at-risk youth. After becoming a psychiatric registered nurse she provided adult emergency psychiatric care at San Francisco General Hospital. Once she obtained her Master's in Nursing as a Psychiatric Nurse practitioner, she began working at Children's Hospital Oakland where she provided therapeutic medication management services to youth ages 5-21 years old.
During her time at Children's hospital Oakland she has provided consult liaison service to in-patient hospital and FQHC primary care medical teams. In addition, she founded and currently directs an interdisciplinary team that provides 30-day follow-up service to youth seen in the emergency department for a behavioral crisis. This program is the first of its kind in Alameda County and continues to expand as an intervention to decrease suicidality in youth.
Monifa is currently an Assistant Clinical faculty at UCSF School of Nursing where she serves as the training coordinator for the United Health Group grant, aimed to diversify the workforce the pediatric mental health field. In addition to provides preceptorship to Nurse Practitioner students in the PMHNP specialty.
