Dr. M. Shoaib Khan graduated from the Dow Medical College, in Karachi, Pakistan in 2006. After completing his internship and three years of research in primary care and infectious diseases at the Aga Khan University, he moved to the United States in 2010 for further training in research and primary care. For the next 5 years, he worked at the pediatric heart centers at the Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati. The focus of his research during this time was outcomes in pediatric cardiovascular and congenital heart disease care, thoracic transplantation, and the use of mechanical assist devices in children. He went back to clinical medicine and completed his residency, graduating as a chief resident from the Family and Community Medicine at the School of Community Medicine, the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa. Based on his deep interest in underserved care, he pursued further training in Global Health with the Health, Equity, Action, and Leadership (HEAL) Initiative with UC San Francisco. He is credentialed to treat patients with substance abuse and also with the American Academy of HIV Medicine as a Specialist for HIV and hepatitis C care. He is completing his Masters in Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London.

Dr. Khan divides his interests and time between full-spectrum family medicine, public health projects, and research endeavors. His background along with a strong bent towards justice and equity for underserved populations has led him to work with multi-specialty teams and organizations in Pakistan, Liberia, the Navajo Nation, and other parts of the United States. He joined UCSF Fresno as core faculty in August 2020 with a similar focus on underserved populations in the San Joaquin Valley area, including the migrant workers, rural area medicine, and inner-city underserved. He sees patients in-hospital with the residents at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC), provides outpatient care at Federally Qualified Health Centers for obstetrical and newborn care in Mendota, for HIV care, chronic hepatitis C treatment, and addiction care including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) at Parlier and Downtown Fresno, California.
