Biography Temple University | M.D. | 2001 | School of Medicine |
Overview Dr. Thoha M. Pham, an Anesthesiologist and Pain Management specialist, has been an active UCSF Department of Anesthesia faculty member since 2006. She provides comprehensive perioperative care for patients undergoing anesthesia for surgery as well as compassionate attention to those suffering with chronic pain. As a full-time provider at our outpatient Pain Management Center, Dr. Pham provides evaluation and guidance on how to reduce or eliminate a wide range of chronic pain syndromes, including cancer pain, chronic neck and low back pain, neuropathic pain syndromes, and complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS). As both an anesthesiologist and a chronic pain specialist, she understands the complexity regarding the development of chronic post-surgical pain and has provided Grand Rounds education to the UCSF Orthopedic Surgery Department regarding perioperative methods aimed at minimizing this unwanted and devastating outcome for our patients.
Dr. Pham is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care after earning her medical degree at Temple University Medical School, followed by an Anesthesiology residency and Pain Medicine fellowship here at UCSF. As a board certified interventional pain specialist, Dr. Pham is highly skilled in both advanced fluoroscopic interventions as well as ultrasound-guided injections. From basic joint and epidural steroid injections to radiofrequency ablations and spinal cord stimulation, she is able to provide a multi-modal approach at minimizing the impact that chronic pain has on patient’s lives.
Dr. Pham has served as the past Program Director for the UCSF Pain Management Fellowship where she provided excellent leadership through the most recent (2007) ACGME re-accreditation process, ensuring that our training program remains top-notch. She remains active in the Pain Medicine fellowship program, helping to train our doctors of the future to be compassionate providers of pain care. On a national level, she has been elected to serve as an American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Adjunct Member for the Educational Track Subcommittee on Pain Medicine for the 2015 and 2016 Governance Years. Dr. Pham is also an active member of the California Society of Anesthesiologists where she serves as an alternate member of the House of Delegates for District 6 (2014-2017). Additionally, she is a member of International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA), and International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).
