Collapse Overview
Shortly after entering the nursing profession 30 years ago, Dr. Jenerette was exposed to the plight of adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) and quickly learned that the same rules for pain management did not apply to this population. She learned that much of the inequity in care for individuals with SCD is due to social and structural determinants of health, implicit and explicit bias, lack of knowledge, myths about Black people, and racism. Her research focuses on improving self-care management and health outcomes for individuals with SCD and other minoritized, underrepresented populations. She is a servant leader and social justice advocate.
Collapse Mentoring

Mentorship and sponsorship are important aspects of my role as a servant leader. We know that success depends on exposure to resources, opportunities, and people. Mentors and sponsors can provide support and cultivate exposure. Throughout my career, I have tried to be a mentor to others. I recently completed a certificate in multicultural mentoring. Mentoring should be individualized and intentional.
