    Kara Faktor, MD, MSc, is a general surgery resident at UCSF. She graduated from Brandeis University with a B.S. in neuroscience, biology and Hispanic studies and received her medical degree from UCLA. During medical school, she spent a year in Rwanda conducting surgical site infection research through a Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellowship, as well as a year pursuing an MSc in Public Health for Development from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her research interests include local and global surgical equity, as well as surgical education. During her dedicated research time she will be investigating the impact of an outreach program on reduction of pediatric surgical disease in a refugee population in Uganda as part of the GloCal Health Fellowship. She will also pursue work related to competency based assessment of residents through Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA).
