    Dr. Ryan Thomas Callahan joins the UCSF Department of Vascular Surgery as the Limb Preservation Clinical Fellow for the 2024-2025 academic year. Dr. Callahan is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and completed his residency training in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. Before moving to the Bay Area, Dr. Callahan earned his Podiatric Medical Degree at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, and prior, his Master’s Degree in Biomechanics with an additional Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. While in Kentucky, Dr. Callahan completed his graduate thesis work at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital working to develop novel techniques for identifying children and adolescents diagnosed with cerebral palsy at high risk for falls. Additionally, Dr. Callahan worked with the Kentucky Department of Health to design health and wellness programs for individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities and facing income disparities. Prior to graduate school, Dr. Callahan completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA and worked four years as a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. In his personal time, Dr. Callahan enjoys spending time with his fiancee', hiking and going to the beach with his dog, cheering for his favorite Boston and Kentucky sports teams, exercising and reading.
