Thye Peng Ngo, PhD, RN, FNP, CNE, CHSE, is a postdoctoral research fellow with the National Clinician Scholars Program at UCSF and the San Francisco VA Health Care System. With over 15 years of experience as a nurse, nurse practitioner, and nurse educator, he holds certifications as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). Dr. Ngo’s work focuses on addressing substance use and mental health disparities among marginalized populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, Veterans, and unhoused communities. Employing syndemic and intersectionality frameworks, his research seeks to unravel complex, layered factors contributing to health inequities and to develop evidence-based solutions for these vulnerable groups.

Dr. Ngo earned his PhD in nursing education from Indiana University, where he investigated collaborative clinical decision-making in simulation-based learning. His dual certifications and extensive experience inform his active role in simulation-based training for interdisciplinary healthcare teams at the VA, where he enhances clinical skills and fosters teamwork among nursing, medical, and pharmacy trainees. Dr. Ngo’s blend of clinical, educational, and research expertise uniquely positions him to contribute meaningfully to public health interventions and policy solutions that advance health equity.
