José I. Gutierrez, PhD, FNP-BC, AAHIVS is a nurse-scientist and assistant professor in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing at UCSF. He is interested in HIV-related research that leverages new and emerging health system interventions for historically excluded populations whose health needs are complicated by restrictive health policy or their socially marginalized statuses within their communities. Specifically, his research focuses on applying market research techniques and stated preference methods to understand patient-informed preferences and needs of vulnerable populations to improve the continuum of care for delivery of HIV treatment and PrEP interventions. Additionally, he is the Associate Program Director of Equity for the UCSF National Clinician Scholars Program, which aims to offer unparalleled training for nurse- and physician-scientists as change agents driving policy-relevant research and partnerships to improve health and health care.
