Overview
Matt Tierney is a Clinical Professor at the UCSF School of Nursing and Affiliated Faculty with the UCSF Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies. His roles include Medical Director of Inpatient Substance Use Management at UCSF Health, and Clinical Director of Substance Use Treatment and Education for UCSF's Office of Population Health. The focus of his work is improving essential addiction treatment delivery locally, regionally and nationally. Matt has extensive clinical experience treating opioid use disorders in under-served populations, and has created and directed numerous novel clinical programs designed to increase access to substance use treatment. With national advanced-practice certifications in Addictions Nursing, Adult Primary Care, and Psychiatric-Mental Health, he has expertise in addressing both individual and systemic factors that are associated with substance use and addiction. He teaches treatment approaches for substance use disorders extensively throughout the UCSF Schools, and he is recognized regionally and nationally as a nurse educator in the treatment of opioid use and other substance use disorders.
