Sarah L. Schneider, MS, CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, serves as Director of Speech-Language Pathology, Co-Director of the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center, and is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, she specializes in the evaluation and treatment of voice and upper airway. Her clinical and scholarly expertise includes professional and performing voice, gender-affirming voice and communication, laryngeal dystonia, and vocal tremor.

Ms. Schneider joined the UCSF Voice and Swallowing Center in 2007 and has played a pivotal role in the development and expansion of speech-language pathology services across the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. She is committed to advancing interdisciplinary, patient-centered care and delivering world-class treatment for individuals with voice, swallowing, and communication disorders. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed to practice in the state of California.

In addition to her clinical work, Ms. Schneider is actively engaged in clinical research and serves as a research consultant in the field of voice disorders. She is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Voice, serves as a guest reviewer for professional publications, and has contributed to multiple texts in the field of voice and upper airway disorders. Her professional leadership roles have included serving as Professional Development Manager for ASHA’s Special Interest Group on Voice and Upper Airway Disorders and Deputy Chair of the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP). She is a sought-after speaker who lectures locally, nationally, and internationally on vocal health, rehabilitation, and interdisciplinary voice care.

Ms. Schneider is also deeply committed to education and mentorship. She has led the coordination of numerous professional conferences and educational initiatives and provides ongoing training and mentorship to students, residents, fellows, and healthcare professionals. Her background as a trained vocalist and performer—including solo, choral, and musical theatre performance—further informs and enriches her clinical approach to voice care.

She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Marquette University, where she received the Alfred J. Sokolnicki Clinical Excellence Award at each commencement ceremony. She completed her clinical fellowship at the Vanderbilt Voice Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where she subsequently remained on staff. Prior to joining UCSF, she also practiced in the private office of Dr. Robert T. Sataloff in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Schneider is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. Her professional affiliations include ASHA; ASHA Special Interest Groups in Voice and Upper Airway Disorders (SIG 3) and Telepractice (SIG 18); the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP).
