I am an Anesthesiologist and Intensivist in the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Care at the University of California, San Francisco. I care for complex patients in the operating rooms and the Medical, Surgical, and Neurological Intensive Care Units at UCSF. I also have interests in medical education, mentorship, and research. I am the Program Director for the Critical Care Medicine (Anesthesiology) fellowship program at UCSF. I this role, I interface with critical care fellows from anesthesiology, emergency medicine, pulmonology, neurology, and surgery. I truly value playing a role in the professional development of these outstanding upcoming intensivists! My current research efforts are focused on identifying and improving the specific challenges faced by women in academic anesthesiology. In the past, I've focused on improving perioperative care for the older surgical patient at risk of perioperative complications. In addition, I am engaged in academic and committee work for a number of national organizations including the American Board of Anesthesiologists, Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Leveling Academic Anesthesia Department Inequities to Encourage Success: The LAADIES Project
UCSF Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Care Feb 1, 2024
Description: The overarching goal of this study is to improve the well-being, retention, and academic success of women in the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Care at UCSF. We will characterize the lived experiences and identify challenges faced by women faculty members in the UCSF Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Care that impact well-being, work-life balance, job satisfaction, intention to stay at UCSF, academic success, and promotion to leadership positions. Focused interventions targeted to specific challenges identified will be developed, implemented, and tested. We then aim to extend this work outside of our department to benefit women in academic anesthesiology and medicine more broadly.
