James Deardorff is a geriatrician and Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatrics at UCSF. Dr. Deardorff attended medical school at Saint Louis University, internal medicine residency at Duke University, and geriatrics fellowship at UCSF. Following a 2-year T32 aging research fellowship at UCSF, he joined the division of Geriatrics as research faculty in July 2023. He received training in epidemiology and biostatistics through the 1-year Advanced Training in Clinical Research certificate program at UCSF.

Dr. Deardorff’s research interest involves improving clinical care and decision making for medically complex older adults at critical transition points in their lives, such as a skilled nursing facility admission. He has completed two projects focused on the development of clinical prediction models to predict mortality risk and need for nursing home level of care among persons with dementia.

In his clinical work, Dr. Deardorff provides care for individuals at the Jewish Home skilled nursing facility and in the hospital on the geriatrics-orthopedic surgery co-management service and general geriatrics consult service.

Altmetrics Details PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
