Dr George Sawaya is an obstetrician-gynecologist and a professor in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at UCSF. His main research interest is in cervical cancer screening with particular interest in screening older women, cost-effectiveness and cost-utility as well as new approaches to population-based screening. He is the director of the Colposcopy and Cervical Dysplasia Clinic at San Francisco General Hospital. He teaches the core curriculum in clinical decision making and evidence-based medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine.
Dr Sawaya earned a medical degree at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at UCSF and a fellowship in UCSF's Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics. He is a former member of the US Preventive Services Task Force.
