    Dr. Lowell Tong is Executive Vice Chair and Vice Chair for Education, Department of Psychiatry. He has served in a number of leadership positions in the School and Department including interim department chair from 2011 to 2013, and chief of the UCSF Mount Zion Psychiatry Department in the late 1990s. Dr. Tong is an inaugural member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators and held the Department of Psychiatry’s Endowed Chair for Medical Student Education for ten years ending 2014. He is the recipient of the Academy of Medical Educators Outstanding Service Award and the Association for Academic Psychiatry Educator Award. From 1995 to 1999, Dr. Tong was Director of the UCSF Psychiatry Care Clinic and in that role oversaw the department’s managed mental health care administrative and clinical operations. He is involved in education research related to assessment and outcomes of curricular innovations at the programmatic and course level.
