       Overview
       Overview
Nancy Hessol is an epidemiologist whose research interests include HIV disease progression and mortality, HIV-related malignancies, human papillomavirus infection, recruitment and retention of women and minorities in research studies, and disparities in health care.

She received a Master’s of Science in Public Health in epidemiology from UCLA’s School of Public Health in 1982 and following graduation worked on occupational, environmental, and reproductive epidemiological studies at the Hanford Nuclear facilities in Richland, Washington. In 1986 and with a strong desire to work with the growing AIDS epidemic, Ms. Hessol joined the San Francisco Department of Public Health where her research focused on HIV disease progression. Seven years later she began employment at UCSF where she is currently a Professor in the Departments of Clinical Pharmacy and of Medicine. In March 2010 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the UCLA School of Public Health and was inducted into the UCLA School of Public Health Hall of Fame.
