 Overview As the director of clinical epilepsy services, my focus has been on building a premiere clinical program. Over the past 5 years, our program has expanded to include pediatric subspecialty care, a VA Center of Excellence, dedicated dietary treatment and specialized epilepsy counseling. We have become one of the most active surgical programs in the US and we are one of the few programs to have around-the-clock EEG monitoring capability for optimal diagnosis and treatment of status epilepticus. My research is aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of people with hard-to-treat epilepsy. My teaching is centered on clinical epilepsy education for fellows, residents and students. My university service has been focused on the recruitment of outstanding medical students (especially from under-represented backgrounds) and on the diversification of faculty leadership on the UCSF campus.
