Dr. Elan Guterman is a neurologist and clinical researcher dedicated to the care of patients with acute neurological disorders seen in the prehospital, emergency, and hospital setting. After graduating from Dartmouth College and obtaining a medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College, she completed her neurology residency and fellowship training at UCSF and joined the faculty in the Neurohospitalist Division of the Department of Neurology in 2018. She is currently obtaining a master’s degree in clinical research through the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at UCSF. The goal of her research is to improve the treatment and delivery of care for prehospital and inpatient neurologic disorders with the goal of identifying inconsistencies and closing gaps that worsen clinical outcomes nationally. Dr. Guterman is particularly interested in the treatment of status epilepticus where there is incredible opportunity to establish a stronger evidence base and improve the care that we provide. She is also deeply committed to the mentorship of medical student and resident trainees.
